Last year I dreamt of a gathering. Women in watercolor dresses, fresh air, camaraderie. Women who've known each other forever and the comfort and support that goes with that friendship. I have friends like this, and I believe most women do. This year I have come to know what a wonderful thing this is. This year I've needed them like never before, and they have all come through. The support they have given me has allowed me to keep a promise I made to my mother and complete this body of work. I know I would have never been able to do this without them, especially Mary who gave me her summer, so that I could keep on working. These women are dedicated to best friends, great women, and the party we'll soon have. Thank you, thank you, thank you. The figures were made in Logan, Ohio at Logan Clay Pipe. The factory produces clay sewer pipe, fireplace tiles and coping for rooftops among other things. For many years, the factory has opened its' doors to artists and allowed them to come and transform their rather dull project into works of art. We are all given all the wet extruded pipe that we want, and after the pieces are completed, the guys in the factory will carefully transport them to the large kilns where they are fired for over 5 days. I have tried not to soothe out the factory logo that is stamped into each pipe, wanting it to be a reminder of the process.
